Usability Testing: A Live Demonstration and How-to Guide

Allison Strochlic  (Research Director - Human Factors Research & Design, Emergo by UL)

Location: Expo Floor

Date: Wednesday, September 16

Time: 2:30pm - 3:15pm

Track: Center Stage (Free Content)

Vault Recording: TBD

How do you know if a product you're developing is on the right track? When should you put a product-in-development in front of users, and how? In this engaging session, members of Emergo by UL's human factors research and design team will conduct a live demonstration of a medical device usability test. You will see a simulated formative usability test designed to identify a device's strengths and opportunities for improvement from a safety, effectiveness, and user-satisfaction standpoint. One Emergo team member will serve as the moderator and lead the simulated test session while another role-plays as a test participant and "thinks aloud," sharing their impressions of the product while performing representative device tasks. A third team member will present a usability testing primer and point out key takeaways during the live demo. Attendees will be encouraged to ask questions throughout the demonstration while observing directly and via close-up camera views of the device in focus, displayed on large monitors.
