Panel: Using 'Smart' (IoT) Devices to Accelerate Product Development and Drive Cost Savings

Paul O'Connor  (Director of Medical Development, Boston Engineering)

Elizabeth Couture  (Security Software Engineer, Geisel Software)

Location: Biomed Room 2

Date: Wednesday, September 16

Time: 8:30 am - 9:15 am

Track: Track B: Next-Generation Design Trends & Innovation Strategies

Vault Recording: TBD

Without product field data that is timely, accurate, and actionable, medical device companies have limited market visibility. While the business impact on missed opportunities is well documented, best practices for collecting and using live product data in medical environments is not. Incorporating Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities into medical devices provides the ability to track device use in the field – down to the component level. This can provide medical companies with the ability to uncover “hidden” customer needs and then engineer new products for added profitability and performance.

The panel will discuss how to:
  • Mitigate risk from product development through post market surveillance
  • Safeguard patient data in a connected world
  • Increase field service efficiency while gaining user insights
