How to Supercharge User Preference Studies to Maximize Innovation

Philip Remedios  (Principal, BlackHagenDesign)

Location: 160B

Date: Wednesday, May 6

Time: 2:30pm - 4:00pm

Track: Track B: Next-Generation Design Trends & Innovation Strategies

Vault Recording: TBD

This workshop provides step-by-step guidelines on how to structure and conduct powerful user-preference design research to maximize the value and output of the study. The workshop will address how to best achieve the following study goals:

  • ensure market needs are fully understood and business opportunities clarified by establishing unmet user-needs
  • baseline desired design features and functions that require further characterization and value assessment
  • establish and vet critical product definition content before hardcore design activities commence
  • converge conceptual configurations and architecture that inform the subsequent system design direction

The workshop will also illustrate how and when to conduct the study to minimize project schedule impact, developing carefully structured protocols and highly resolved stimuli to extract extraordinary user feedback that drives innovation and resultant IP opportunities. Tasks will be distributed to the audience after each section to encourage participation and collaboration with the presenters and participants.
