When it became apparent that there was a dire shortage of medical personal protective equipment (PPE) during the COVID-19 pandemic, a team of local doctors, academics, and tech leaders from disparate industries came together to help solve this problem in a rather unique way. Through the creation of the non-profit organization MasksOn.org, they have donated more than 17,000 shields (masks) toward their goal to mass-produce reusable, sanitizable Emergency Use face shields for medical purposes and distribute them to the clinicians who do not have access to FDA cleared equipment. Distributed under FDA Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), the devices are provided free-of-charge to healthcare providers (HCP) facing personal protective equipment (PPE) availability challenges. The device was developed at amazing speeds and relied heavily on real-world testing and feedback from clinician users. Attend this session to see how a simple off-the-shelf full-face snorkel mask is saving the lives of those working on the front lines.
