Successful R&D programs deliver new products that address customer needs, improve patient outcomes and drive new revenue. R&D teams often focus on the technical and can sometimes lose sight of the customer and the big picture. How do you prioritize programs and ensure that the team is working on the right products that the customer wants? How do you identify and mitigate risks early? Moving programs forward to translate an idea into reality requires coordination of various parts including prototype design, feasibility testing and preclinical studies. How do you expedite the R&D process? As R&D becomes more complex and the external landscape constantly shifts, the team needs to think strategically and be brokers as well as builders to drive successful R&D programs.

Topics covered include:
  • Understanding how executives and managers identify business priorities to drive product development efforts
  • Importance of understanding the customer needs, commercial feasibility and the big picture in selecting R&D programs
  • Identifying program risks upfront and addressing early
  • Ways a company can expedite the R&D process
  • Case examples and tips
