Donald Lombardi founded the Institute for Pediatric Innovation (IPI) in 2006 as a nonprofit collaboration platform to address the market gap in medical devices and drug formulations designed for treating children. Drawing upon his experience in higher education, intellectual property management, healthcare, and biomedical business development, Mr. Lombardi has formed innovation partnerships with pharmaceutical and device companies, hospitals, universities, and patient/parent advocacy organizations. IPI's signature program, the Clinical Innovation Catalyst Program, teaches nurses and allied health professionals to develop technologies that address to high priority clinical improvement needs such as hospital acquired conditions. Mr. Lombardi also serves as intellectual property management consultation to healthcare and research organizations, serves as Clinical Assessment Lead for the New England Pediatric Device Consortium, and is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Adjunct) at Tufts University School of Medicine. Mr. Lombardi founded the Intellectual Property Office at Boston Children's Hospital in 1991 and served as the hospital's Chief Intellectual Property Officer until 2006. His prior careers were in science, education, and business. He earned an MS in Life Sciences from MIT and a BA in Biophysics from Amherst College.
